Last month, representatives from Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust (RBPT) were delighted to collect the award for Top Charity, awarded at the York Press Top 100 Businesses presentation, in partnership with York St John University.
RBPT was recognised for its work to preserve an area’s heritage, while bringing redundant buildings back to life.
The trust was set up in 2003 by a group of local residents and volunteers to restore and reimagine the redundant historic railway station in Richmond – a magnificent Grade II* goods and passenger which was decommissioned in 1969. The Station is now a vibrant creative place, and is home to a three-screen cinema, award winning restaurant, art galleries, and a number of independent businesses.
Trust CEO Chris Brown said “We were delighted to accept this award from York Press and York St John University in recognition of the work we do to protect historic buildings, and to repurpose sites to meet the needs of the communities we serve".
“This is a really exciting time for the trust - alongside our flagship project, The Station, we are embarking on a major new venture to regenerate the former Grammar School building in Richmond. We are working hard to secure funding to bring this site back to life as a Centre for Creativity and Digital Enterprise, making it a regional example of inspiring building regeneration.”
